Please forward this to anyone who is interested.

Reminder that tonight is the first community meeting to provide information about the District’s proposed school construction bond. These would be good meetings to attend to gather more information regarding the proposal. Below are the dates and locations, all meetings start at 6:00 p.m.

4/29 – Tensed Community Center

5/1 – Plummer High School Gym

5/6 – Worley at the elementary school gym

Hope to see you there!

What does the phrase ‘living in poverty’ mean to you?
I think that this phrase has less to do with the circumstances that make up the "poverty living" scenario than it has to do with people surrendering to the simplicity of their life circumstances that from an exterior perspective may evoke sympathetic or empathetic responses from the greater community. The seemingly impoverished may or may not lack comfort or contentment with those circumstances but by nature do not have the means to change them if indeed that is what they feel is needed. I think that society at the hands of media sensationalizes poverty. However with the ever widening gap of the haves and the have-nots there are stark differences showcased for the world. Images of the Third World can give the have-nots of this country a great sense of relief that there is always someone who has it worse than you do. I feel that "living in poverty" is meerly a label that depending on its usage can evoke feelings of empowerment or feelings of oppression depending on your personal view of the collective welfare.

How has your definition of ‘poverty’ changed in the past year?
In the last year my definition of poverty has evolved to emphasizing the lacking spirituality within myself and the community.

Does your community think differently about poverty now? How can you tell?
Through my blogging efforts, I have observed so many more opportunities available to the community to reach out and or minister to the poverty of social, skill, leadership, and general unity than I had access to in the past. I don't know how successful the information is in reaching its intended audience but I have more hope for what the future holds for the Coeur d'Alene Reservation communities.

UPDATE: Stacey Sonder called and said that the doctor told him that JoAnn’s heart has improved and they are not going to have to put in the defibulator. It is now at 35 percent and it has shrunk a little bit (good thing). They are going to keep her until Monday to continue to monitor her.

1. I like the idea that you can find community specific information out at the click of a button. However when we have limited contributors I don't necessarily need to check it very often. I don't like not knowing whether it is truly reaching people. We have had limited feedback on its success/usefulness. If the word-of-mouth gets going I think the blog will have much more impact to the overall effort.
It would be nice to have some kind of online tutorial to get people signed up to be participants, contributors, writers, editors, etc in the blogging effort including definitions of the different blogger roles.

2. Kendrick and Julietta have the PUG Marks on their blog page. A pug mark (or pugmark) is what the print of a tiger paw is called. It is a way to integrate the youth into the Horizons effort along with the adults.

I just wanted to say on behalf of myself and Jackson that we appreciate all the thanks from everyone. I also wanted to say that we are willing to do this because everyone struggles at times and needs a little help and we are all fortunate enough to have such a caring community. We have struggled ourselves in the past and have needed an extra hand so now that we are able, we will help anyone we can. So all in all, we don’t feel like thanks is needed or deserved for opening our home to this family. We are just returning the favor someone has once done for us. Coeur D’Alene Tribal members or not, we are all human and deserve to have a shot at a good life and our door is always open to those in need. Also, I just wanted to say this is a blessing for both families. We were in terrible need of a reliable and caring sitter for our children so that we could keep our jobs and Jessica is doing this for us so we are truly thankful for that. I am also very thankful that we were able to help keep 5 wonderful children and two very loving parents a part of our community.

Hello CDA Rez Horizons "Zone"! I am a fellow student with Laura Laumatia and Josh Arnold in the UI bioregional planning program. The work we are doing as graduate students is fascinating, and truly a rewarding experience to work for your community(ies). This program began this academic school year. We will spend three semesters in your area. We are now in our 2nd semester. One more to go next fall! I have enjoyed every moment learning about you Keep up the good work building your sustainable community. I heard great words to share as "food for thought". The other weekend while at UI class from a presenter teaching us to use mapping software, he said "Without a vision, a community will maintain the status quo". So... Go Horizons Team! Respectfully, Kay Kidder
