School Board Elections - May 20

TRUSTEE ELECTION - May 20, 2008

On May 20, 2008, patrons from the Plummer-Worley Joint School District No. 44 will be asked to elect representatives from their zone for the Board of Trustees. The following positions are open for election:

Zone 1 - Term ends in 2011 Currently held by Kathy Anderson

Zone 3 - Term ends in 2009 Currently held by Ida (J.R.) Gustin

Zone 5 - Term ends in 2011 Currently held by Tim Clark

Nominating petitions may be picked up beginning March 17, 2008, at the district office located at 1157 E. Street, Plummer, Idaho (across from Lakeside High School). Trustee nominations must be filed at the district office by 5:00 p.m. on April 18, 2008. All nominees must be, at the time of nomination and election, at least 18 years of age, and a resident of the trustee zone from which nominated.

Interested patrons are encouraged to contact Karyn Stockdale at the District Office (686-2114) for a legal description of the trustee zones. Interested patrons may also obtain a list of board responsibilities from Mrs. Stockdale, or contact a current or past school board member to discuss the responsibilities.

Career Fair - March 25th

On Tuesday, March 25th we are planning a Career Fair at Lakeside Middle School. We are looking for volunteers to share their career with students. The Fair will run from 9:45-1:45 and there will be time for you to set up your table or display between 8:30-9:30. The 7th and 8th graders will be scheduled for the first two hours, the freshmen for the next hour and the final hour will be split between the sophomores, juniors, and seniors. The public will also be invited for the last hour. It will be a day full of learning and fun for all. If you would like to be a demonstrator, contact us as soon as possible. International Economic Summit Dec 12th

WE NEED VOLUNTEERS!!!!!!! Training for volunteers will be held from 8:15 to 9:00
a.m. this day.

This major event is being held for approximately 500 high school
students from schools located in Moscow up to Bonners Ferry and surrounding area, including Lakeside High School in Plummer.

The University of Idaho is sponsoring and the Idaho Council on Economic Education is very involved in this event. WE NEED VOLUNTEERS!!!!!!! We would like volunteers representing the Coeur d’Alene Tribe, Coeur d’Alene Casino and Horizon Community Volunteers. The International
Economic Summit is a global trading simulation that is full of excitement, creativity and competition as nearly 100 high school teams representing various countries work aggressively to better the economic situation of their country. Teams are also working to improve the world
addressing many issues such as, pollution, deforestation, AIDS and human trafficking. In order for the Summit to be successful the event requires 45 community volunteers to assist in score keeping, bankers, summit monitors, registration, etc. Training and lunch will be provided. Presentation for business people, legislators, medical staff, law
enforcement, judicial staff, educators and others working with
people living in poverty—Learn about changes in communication styles to
reduce conflict and misunderstandings, methods to improve relationships with and
motivate people from poverty backgrounds and ways to frame goals from the
perspective of people with limited incomes. Dr. Beegle will help participants better
understand the context of growing up in poverty in the U.S. and build skills in
addressing class and poverty issues with sensitivity.

The Kootenai County Commissioners will be available November 15th at 6:00 p.m. at Worley City Hall/Senior Center for a Town Hall Meeting to discuss county related issues in an open forum.

Elections for City Council and Mayors for Worley, Plummer and Tensed will be held on November 6th.

Positions open and candidates for Worley include:
Mayor - Charlene Waddell, Steven Wheeler, David Harding, and Willis Nigh
Council (2 seats open) - Robert Weinclaw, Karen Babbitt
Council 2 year (1 seat) - Ray Brouse, James Atwood
Polls are open from 12 noon to 8 pm at Worley City Hall.

Positions open and candidates for Plummer include:
Mayor - Tim Clark and Doug Colley
Council (2 seats open) - Jannette Taylor
Electors will also be voting on a $4 million revenue bond for a sewer plant.
Polls are open from 8 am to 8 pm at Plummer City Hall conference room.

Positions open and candidates for Tensed include:
Council (2 seats open) - Shane Sanford
Polls are open from 12 noon to 8 pm at the Tensed Community Building.

Vision Launch Results in Four Action Teams

The Vision Launch was held on September 27th at the Plummer Community Center. Forty-five community members discussed the issues and concerns which came out of the Visioning Rally. These included a lack of support for educaiton, a lack of investment in the future of the community, a lack of community pride, a non-inclusive environment, a lack of connection between the communities, youth issues and concerns for young people, Tribal and local governments not working together, a lack of future for the children in the community, a division within the community, and a lack of relationships between people.

Four Action Teams were formed to work on issues so that the vision can become reality.

Visioning Rally
On September 13, 2007 over 100 community members of all ages and backgrounds came together at the Long House in Worley to have a conversation about the future of our collective communities on the Reservation. In a word - WOW!

By the end of the night a new vision was created. That vision is below as well as on a separate page “The Vision”.

Coeur d’Alene Reservation communities are close-knit communities with tribal and local governments working in strong partnerships. We have open community conversations and full participation from our citizens. We are renowned for our progressive, cohesive and collaborative communities and self-supportive rural life. We have a strong belief in and support for education that provides for lifelong learning.

We have created vibrant bustling downtowns and a very diverse, progressive, and innovative small business sector. We have developed an abundance of savvy business people who cater to the multitude of recreational enthusiasts and passing visitors.
