JoAnn Brown-Sonder Benefit - March 28

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008

As most of you probably know, JoAnn Brown-Sonder has been hospitalized since March 7 for congestive heart failure. (Baby Archer is doing fine). The doctors say this is extremely rare at her young age. She has responded well to the medication (her heart is now pumping at 25% instead of 12% - although it is supposed to be at 55% as I understand it) and they are now allowing her to walk around the hallways, whereas before she was only allowed to get out of bed to go to the bathroom. JoAnn is scheduled for surgery Thursday morning (March 20) for the doctors to put in a defibulator. I do not know how much longer she will be in the hospital. Needless to say, expenses are piling up for the family, due in part to the high price of gasoline.

The Lakeside Boosters are coordinating a benefit Spaghetti dinner on March 28, 2008, at the Longhouse in Worley, beginning at 4:30 p.m. and going until we run out of food. Price will be $5 per plate for spaghetti, salad, French bread, dessert, and a drink. Donations will also be accepted. We will be scheduling shifts for people to help cook on the 28th, and to serve, and do cleanup at the end. Please contact Mindy Parker if you want to volunteer to work.

Food donations can be made through the following people:

Lakeside High School – Dawn Sifford – 686-2158
Lakeside Middle School – Sherry Chapman – 686-2204
Lakeside Elementary – Mindy Parker – 686-2117
CDA Tribe – Chris Dohrman – 686-6106.
(We have already received 10 pounds of burger from Dale Johnson)

Frog Regatta Festival - April 19

Tuesday, March 4th, 2008

The Rockford’s Lion Club is beginning to sell frogs for the annual Frog Regatta Festival. If you are unfamiliar with this, you buy a frog for $5 and then on Saturday, April 19 the frogs (plastic) are dumped into the Creek in Rockford. The first frog to get to the end of the race earns the owner $300, the second gets its owner $200 and the third place gets the owner $100.

The proceeds from the frog sales go to benefit youth and community activities, such as the previous scholarships which were awarded to Lakeside, Liberty, and Freeman graduating seniors. Most recently, three of our student groups (FFA, FCCLA, and Senior Class) received a total of $1,000 in financial assistance from the Lions to attend trips they are taking. They have also donated money in the past for various fund raisers including benefits for medical expenses in our community, as well as other student activities.

If you are interested in buying your “racing frog” and contributing to the Lions fund raiser please contact one of the following people: Mindy Parker, Bettie Hensley, Karyn Stockdale, Lion Tim Stockdale, Lion Sam Meyle, Lion Bill Burns, Lion Stacey Sonder, Lion Rich Wienclaw, or Lion Dan Sneve. May the best frog win!

Family of seven need housing

Friday, February 8th, 2008

We have a family of seven, who are not enrolled Coeur d’ Alene but are descendants, that have recently been evicted from their home due to circumstances beyond their control. The owners of the home recently sold the house that they were renting so they were asked to move out. The family is currently staying at the casino motel and using their own money to pay for the room, but their funds are depleting. They do not qualify for Coeur d’ Alene tribal assistance or housing and they are trying hard everyday to find a place to rent. They have gone to each city, (Plummer, Worley, Tensed and Tekoa) seeking any vacancies, but have been unsuccessful. Their children attend school on a daily basis and they are trying to stay as structured as they possible can for their children’s sake. If there is anybody out there who knows of a place that is available I would sure appreciate any direction or support. Please call me if you have any questions, 208-686-6310 or 568-1968.
