Westside Rendezvous Continues
May 14 Plummer, ID The 2007 summer weekend festival was such a success that plans have been made to establish an annual event for the Westside communities of Desmet, Tensed, Plummer and Worley. Last year’s event grew out of the Horizon’s project and one of the resulting projects, the Community Pride Committee.
The 2008 Westside Rendezvous has had several planning meetings already. Kathy Kolar said, “T his year there is more time for planning. We started earlier and have the later parade date of August 9. Community members will again be helping the Coeur d’Alene Tribal Wellness Center finish off Rock’n’ the Rez day camp with a one-day carnival. There will also be two dances over the weekend, Four On The Floor Friday night at a farm outside of Tensed and Rampage on Saturday night in Plummer.”
Plummer Senior Citizens, Lakeside Booster Club and the FAA will have fundraiser feeds and Plummer Action Committee will host a potluck picnic welcoming Lakeside graduates back to reunions.
The Native Village in Worley was a big success last year. The teepee and native crafts will again be on display. Stick game was demonstrated and very popular as many local residents had never seen this native game. This year more people are being asked to display and to discuss their homestead and early settlement memorabilia.
Some of the other activities include Car Show, Fishing Derby, Mini Fair, kids games, parade, silent auction, raffles and a Sunday Singspiration with specials from various local church groups.
The 2008 Westside Rendezvous will be Aug. 8, 9 and 10 with activities staged in the Desmet-Tensed area, Plummer and Worley. For parade applications contact Kathy at 686-1366.

The Coeur d’Alene Tribe Environmental Programs Office recently received free recycling containers through a grant from the National Recycling Coalition/Coca-Cola Company for 60 recycling bins for aluminum cans and plastic beverage bottles. These bins are free to any Tribal offices or local businesses that would like to help out with the Tribe’s recycling efforts.
Initially, each office or business receiving the bins will be responsible for transporting the cans and bottles to area recycling centers on your own; however, we will be working towards some more organized means of recycling, in the future.
At this point, we have received 30 clear plastic bins, with lids (about the size of a 32 gal. garbage can). These bins snap together or can be stored flat, when not in use. Later, we will receive 30 hard blue plastic bins, with covers, labeled for cans or bottles.
If you would like one or more bins for your office(s) or business, please contact Bill Denton at 686-6412 or Tiffany Allgood at 686-8802 and we will make arrangements to deliver the bins to you.
