Idaho Horizons Summit: Bringing Communities and Partners Together

Monday, December 17th, 2007

The Idaho Horizons Summit will be an exciting and interactive opportunity to connect our Horizons community with potential partners. We hope that the partnerships made during this summit will provide us with valuable resources for completing our action items, as well as offer partners the chance to develop and expand upon their services to rural Idaho communities.

We will have a 15 min. time slot to present our community’s goals, vision, and action items to tell the partnering organizations what they can do to help our community. Everyone will have the chance to speak one-on-one with partnering organizations after the presentations, during the networking sessions. This will be a valuable time for solidifying contact information and compiling resources.

All community members are invited to attend the full day.

Work Plans Available

Monday, December 10th, 2007

The Action Teams all presented their work plans verbally at the Community Breakfast November 29th. Complete work plans are available as separate pages to the right.

Life Long Learning will be focusing on building and strengthening educational programs for all ages, increasing the proportion of graduates from the High School, defining a process for identifying factors that contribute to dropping out of school, establishing a career program with job sahdowing, internship and visitation experiences for high school students to explore the many career opportunities in the communities, passage of bonds for the construction of a new school and library, and providing a continuous learning clearing house through establishing connections with local universities, community and technical colleges and through establishing a format for visiting speakers. Basically, they would like to increase level of optimism and appreciation within the local communities through involvement in educational activities.

Communication and Leadership will be working to improve communications by promoting the blog as a useful informational tool, hosting informal gatherings for leaders to build relationships, exploring options for a formal leadership group that would encompass all of the entities, starting a cooperative project of a non-controversial nature to foster working together, and trying to determine the most effective way to provide communication. They hope to have an impact on reducing poverty by building strong community leaders who make more efficient use of resources through cooperative efforts.
