Daughters of Tradition is a prevention/education program for teenage girls
Daughters learn to understand/apply traditional values to help develop healthy lifestyles.
Recognize healthy behavior and how to avoid unsafe situations.
Develop a sense of what it means to be a Coeur d’Alene Woman.
Girls are welcome to join at anytime. This program runs throughout the school year. Parents/Guardians are encouraged to participate!

Presentation for business people, legislators, medical staff, law
enforcement, judicial staff, educators and others working with
people living in poverty—Learn about changes in communication styles to
reduce conflict and misunderstandings, methods to improve relationships with and
motivate people from poverty backgrounds and ways to frame goals from the
perspective of people with limited incomes. Dr. Beegle will help participants better
understand the context of growing up in poverty in the U.S. and build skills in
addressing class and poverty issues with sensitivity.

The Child Support Development Program needs input regarding child support issues including establishing paternity, establishing initial child support orders; modifying child support orders; enforcing child support orders, and location of missing parents for establishing and modifying child support obligations.

Non-Profit Training in December

Free training “Non-Profits that Work” is being offered Friday, December 7th at the Wellness Center. It will be from 9 am to 3 pm with lunch provided. The day long training will answer questions such as; why should our Horizons steering committee or action commitees consider developing a non-profit, how should we structure the board, waht is the right insurance coverage, and what are the financial and tax implications associated with a non-profit. Senior Class Cooking Up Travel Funds

Is your business or organization looking for someone to cater a holiday gathering? If so, look no further. The Senior Class of Lakeside High School has been approved to take an educational and historically enriched trip to New York City and Boston. Each student must earn approximately $2,000 each and they have already made deposits from their own earnings. The students are committed to earning the funds and are looking forward to this once in a lifetime chance to visit an area of our country where they have never been.

If you would like to help the students raise the money necessary for this trip and would like to enjoy a scrumptious meal at the same time, please contact Diane Harp at 686-2152. She or one of the students can help you find a date and also discuss potential menu choices with you. A wonderful home cooked meal of Lasagna, Salad, French Bread, and dessert could be yours for the low cost of $12 a plate.

Foster Child Christmas Bazaar

Foster Child Christmas 2006There will be a Foster Child Christmas Bazaar on Saturday, Dec. 8th from 3-5 p.m., at the Lakeside High School Gym, and then again on Dec. 14th in St. Maries at the Church of the Nazarene from 6-8 p.m.

The purpose of the Bazaar is for children in foster care to be able to provide gifts for their families, foster families and anyone significant in their lives. They are able to choose gifts and wrap them for their families at the Bazaar. They “pay” for these gifts with certificates earned by doing odd jobs and service to others. 

Donations of gifts, cookies, drinks, etc., can be dropped off at the Gateway prior to the 8th, or at the High School on the day of the event, beginning at 10 a.m.  Contact Sherri or Christine at the Plummer Post Office, 686-1748,  for more information.

Fun at the Energy Fair

The Energy Fair was great fun and everyone involved hopes to make it an annual event. Although the attendance was small, those who went left with their arms full. Compact flourescent lights were the big give away with people receiving a total of nine from various vendors. Shower heads, shower timers, thermometers, and lots of literature were also given away. Drawings for numerous doorprizes such as 5 gallon tanks of propane, LED Christmas lights, night lights, smoke detectors and much more added to the excietment.

Christmas Music Program Open to All

Genevieve Clark’s music students will present a program of Christmas music on Sat., Dec. 8 at 1:00 p.m. Refreshments will be served after you have been delighted by the harp, flute and piano renditions of these young musicians. This holiday program will be at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the East end of “A” Street in Plummer, ID.

If you enjoy harp music, you will be thrilled by the talent of these youngsters. If you are not familiar with harp music, you should take this opportunity to hear a live presentation–high-lighted with the flute. Mrs. Clark has been teaching music for many years and has a gift for developing talent when she finds it. This is not an ordinary recital. These young artists will amaze you.

Community Yard Sale

The Warriors Fighting for a Better Tomorrow group is holding a Community Yard Sale this Sunday, November 18th from 10a-6p at the Rose Creek Longhouse in Worley ID. Also, Indian Tacos and Chili will be for sale. All the proceeds will go towards helping the youth with sports and academics in various ways such as tutoring and incentives and more. Thanksgiving Celebration

You are invited to a Community Thanksgiving Celebration, Tuesday, November 20 at the Fort Sherman Chapel on the North Idaho College Campus. The event will begin at 7pm.

This will be an inter-faith celebration with the sharing of writings, prayers and music from a variety of faiths and cultures. It is an opportunity for the community to come together and express thanks for all the blessings we have received. The celebration is informal and there will be no offering. We are encouraging those coming to bring non-perishable food items for the local food bank.

The program is sponsored by “Diakonia” the area inter-faith group.

Community Coalition Breakfast

The second Community Coalition Breakfast will be held Thursday, November 29th at 7:00 am at the Rose Creek Longhouse in Worley.  Community leaders from the public sector, private businesses, and community organizations are invited to come together to build relationships and share information.

Representatives from the four Horizons Action Teams will present their respective work plans to the group.
